Privacy notice

What we hold about you, why we hold it, who else sees it, and how to get a copy or have it erased. Written to be read rather than to be survived. Last updated 11 September 2026.

1 · Who is responsible

Techly Marketing Limited (RC 8267001), 18 Peace Estate, Egbeda, Lagos, Nigeria, is the data controller for Techly Marketing Academy at learn.techlymarketing.com. Data protection questions go to connect@techlymarketing.com.

We handle personal data under the Nigeria Data Protection Act and the regulations made under it, and we deal with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission as our supervisory authority.

2 · What we hold

Everything below is either something you typed or something the platform recorded as you used it.

  • Your account — full name, email address, an optional phone number, and a password we never store in readable form. We record when you confirmed your email and when you last signed in.
  • What you bought — the courses, the amounts in naira, the date, and the reference our payment provider gave the transaction. We never see or hold your card number.
  • Your work — which lessons you opened and when, your quiz attempts and scores, the assessments you submitted, the marks and feedback on them, and any certificate awarded.
  • Marketing consent — whether you said yes to marketing email, and when. It is a separate decision from opening an account, and it always will be.
  • Technical records — sign-in sessions and security tokens, kept so we can keep you signed in and shut a session down if it is misused.

3 · Why we hold it, and on what basis

  • To give you what you paid for — your account, access, progress, marking and certificate. The basis is the contract between us.
  • To take payment and keep proper books — orders and receipts. The basis is the contract and our legal obligation to keep records.
  • To keep the Academy working and secure — session records, and looking into a shared or stolen login. The basis is our legitimate interest in a platform that is not being abused.
  • To send you marketing — only if you said yes, and only until you say stop. The basis is your consent, and every such email carries an unsubscribe link.

Email that is part of what you bought — confirm your address, here is your receipt, your assessment has been marked — is not marketing. You get those because you have an account, and they stop when the account does.

4 · Who else sees it

We do not sell personal data and we never will. We use a small number of service providers to run the Academy, and each sees only what it needs:

  • Paystack takes the payment. You enter your card details on their page, not ours. They tell us whether the payment succeeded and give us a reference.
  • Brevo sends our email — confirmations, receipts, marking notices, and marketing if you consented.
  • Railway hosts the application and the database.
  • Cloudflare serves the domain, and hosts course video where a course has any.
  • Attrevo, our own product, records anonymous page visits so we can see which parts of the Academy people use. It is described in section 8.

Some of these store data on servers outside Nigeria. We say so plainly rather than bury it: running a platform of this size entirely on Nigerian infrastructure is not currently practical, and pretending otherwise would be worse than telling you.

We will also disclose data where a Nigerian court or regulator lawfully requires it.

5 · How long we keep it

  • Your account and your work — while the account is open, and for as long afterwards as you leave it open. Ask us to erase it and we erase it.
  • Order records — kept for as long as the law requires a business to keep its financial records, even after an account is erased. What remains is the transaction, stripped of the account it belonged to.
  • Certificates — permanently. See section 7.

6 · Your rights

Under the Nigeria Data Protection Act you can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to erase it, object to a use of it, or withdraw a consent you gave.

Two of those are buttons rather than requests, because a right that needs a developer to write a query is not much of a right:

  • A copy of everything — we export it as a file. It is the actual data, not a summary of it. Password hashes and security tokens are left out: they are held about you, but handing them over creates risk for you and tells you nothing.
  • Erasure — the account, the email address, the orders, the progress and the submitted work all go.

Ask at connect@techlymarketing.com from the address on your account. If you think we have handled your data badly, tell us first — and you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission whether or not you do.

7 · The one thing erasure does not remove

A certificate is not erased. It is a public record of an award, and an employer you sent a verification link to is relying on it. Erasing your account removes everything that identifies you to us; the certificate keeps the name it was awarded in, because a certificate with the name taken out is not anonymous, it is broken.

If you want the certificate gone too, write to us and say so. That one is a conversation rather than a button, because it breaks a link somebody else may be using.

8 · Cookies and measurement

We use cookies to keep you signed in and to hold your cart between pages. There is no way to offer an account without them, so we do not ask you to accept those — they are the service, not surveillance, and they stop when you sign out.

Measurement is a separate decision and we ask you for it. We run Attrevo, our own analytics product, on this site: it records which pages are opened, so we can see which courses people look at and where they stop. The banner at the bottom of the page is where you accept or decline it, and declining costs you nothing — every part of the Academy works either way.

Either way, Attrevo does not read your name or your email, it does not follow you to other websites, and no advertising network receives anything from this site. There are no third-party advertising or social media trackers on the Academy at all.

9 · Children

The Academy is for adults. We do not knowingly hold data about anyone under 18. If you believe a child has an account, tell us and we will remove it.

10 · Changes

If we change this notice in a way that matters, we will email the address on your account before it takes effect. The date at the top always tells you which version you are reading.
